If you drive by too fast you just might miss this little gem on Colfax. To The Wind Bistro is a tiny 10 table restaurant, but the food is incredible! I was told to get there early since they do not take reservations, are only open for dinner and have very limited seating. I made G get there at 4:45 since I was starved and wanted to make sure we got the first seating. I am not sure if it was just that particular night, or if Friday nights are not that busy, but the place didn’t fill up until about 7.
The menu changes seasonally and they start you out with their homemade peanuts which were unique but delicious. G and I shared the Cornmeal Waffle (which is a menu staple), and the Roasted Quail. I was a little nervous about the quail being too gamey but it was actually really good and would highly recommend it.
For the entires G got the Salmon and I got the chicken. Both were amazing and filling. We commented at the end of our meal that we were very happy with the portions. Sometimes when we go to a fancier place we feel like the food is awesome but the portions are so small and sometimes we leave wanting more. Not the case here, we were stuffed!
We finished off our dinning experience with some tea, coffee and the bread pudding. We each also had a couple of glasses of wine and our total bill came out to about $150.
I would highly recommend this restaurant if you are in the mood to try something new and tasty. The atmosphere was totally relaxed and not stuffy at all. Jeans were appropriate and below is what I wore.
Jeans, Boots (under $30!), Sweater (mine was bought in store at Nordstrom Rack a while back but here is a good option)
This past weekend we went over to a friends house for dinner and decided to bring along this Harken Chardonnay from Molly’s Spirits in Denver. It was such a great deal at only $11.
Just as the label says, it is a nice buttery Chardonnay. This is my favorite style of wine as opposed to the steely and tart Chardonnay that you often find. This wine did not disappoint and was the perfect appetizer wine to sip on while we enjoyed some veggies, chips and homemade salsa from our gracious hosts. I highly recommend picking this wine up if you enjoy a buttery Chardonnay as much as I do.
Here is a round up of my work outfits from the past week. My office is very casual so really anything except for ripped jeans and shorts go. My personal favorite look this week was my striped t-shirt and bell bottom jeans. I felt so cute and Paris chic!
Outfit 1: Jeans, Similar Shirt (mine was from Nordstrom Rack purchased a while ago), Puff Shoes (on major sale but they are not very comfortable, there is a break in period).
Outfit 2: Shirt, Shoes (on sale and weatherproof, highly recommend!).
Outfit 3: Dress (mine is from The Limited from a while ago and need a new one. This looks like a good option), Necklace, Tights, Shoes.
Outfit 4: Shirt (couldn’t find the exact one online but I bought it in the store), Jeans, Shoes (bought on Poshmark so check there first).
Charlie has often been told that he is one good looking hound, so I thought I would share his fashion secret with everyone, bandanas! I love searching the internet for fun and unique bandanas. I first got the idea when I saw that Chelsea Handler always has her Chow’s in them and I thought they looked so cute.
When we got Charlie two years ago we started his collection. We have even started hunting for bandanas when we travel to bring him back a souvenir and remind us of a fun trip. When he was a puppy we did have issues with him chewing on the ends when he would get bored, but he eventually grew out of that and now he wears them 24-7 (except for at the dog park or doggie day care). I swear that he likes it better when he has one on and when you look good, you feel good!
They also make really cute gifts for people who just got a pup or if you are going over to someones house who has a dog.
Here are some of Charlie’s preferred bandana companies:
Willowear – They have great packaging that is standard so they are ready to go gifts.
Wagged – This company also donates a meal to a dog for every bandana that is sold.
This weeks Wine Wednesday is Bodacious 2014 from Jon Nathaniel Wines in Napa Valley. I was actually given this bottle as a gift from a colleague and was eager to try it. It retails for $60. This is a much higher price point then I usually go for but the wine was great and I think worth the price. This would be a good bottle to gift to an older family member or friend that appreciates fine wine. I actually often find myself in search of a good bottle of wine that is not $20 to give as gifts so I was happy to find this. Now that I am in my 30’s I feel like brining a bottle of $3 Chuck to a gathering is unacceptable 🙂
I typically do not gravitate to red wines and would chose white if given the choice, but I really did like this red. It is a blend with Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Malbec, and Cabernet Franc. I got a lot of ripe and juicy fruits on the front end and found it to be very approachable, easy drinking, food-friendly wine.
Paired with filet mignon, Brussels sprouts and couscous.
Typically jeans and a nice blouse are perfect for my office, however once a year we have a celebratory dinner where we get a chance to dress up. I was struggling to find an office appropriate outfit until I found this dress! This navy fit and flare dress is the perfect cut for my body type and has an eyelet detail on the sleeve that makes it stand out. Rather than pairing it with a traditional heel, I decided that my dupe Rockstud’s would take this classic dress to an edgy level. I received so many compliments from both men and women and I can’t wait to re-style this dress again soon!
Dress – I purchased it for $42 in store during one of their sales. Keep checking the website for a sale because they have one pretty much every week it seems.
Shoes – I bought these ages ago from Stein Mart for $20 (such a good find!) but here are some similar options. Option 1, Option 2.
Close up detail of the sleeve.
Here are some things that I have my eye on that would make a perfect valentines day gift (did you hear that G?).
- Everyone and their mom has this Free People Bralette but I still need it.
- Again everyone and their mom and maybe their hip grandma has his necklace but such a cute and classic piece.
- Everyone can use a new book and I heard this one is really good!
- A classic beret with a twist!
- I need a new spot treatment and this one looks like it could be good. Not romantic but certainly necessary.
- A cute eyelet blouse that will get you ready for spring.
