With the rising temps here in Denver I wanted to cool things down with this refreshing can of rose. I really liked the Simpler Wines White wine so I figured I should also try the rose. I really liked this wine. It is nothing fancy and great for a low key afternoon.
Here were G’s more descriptive thoughts: “The wine was crisp, refreshing, with a hint of strawberry up front, and a very bland finish.” I asked him if he would repurchase or recommend this wine and his response was “No I wouldn’t buy it again”. He did preface it by saying that it would probably be good to purchase if you were having a large party outdoors since it would save on cost while still providing your guests with an alcoholic beverage. I would also add that the cans are fun and would be a great addition for a party. On a regular Sunday afternoon though, I would encourage you to treat yo self! To something a little better.
Ah Wednesday! I am really excited about this Wine Wednesday because A. It’s wine in a can and B. It’s cheap! I stubbled across Simpler Wines this past weekend at Trader Joe’s and decided to give it a try. G was quick to scoff at it saying that this will probably be the worst wine I have ever had, and I am so happy to be able to prove him wrong 🙂
He thought that this wine was produced by the same people who make Simpler Times Beer which he said was the worst beer that he has ever tasted, but this wine is actually produced by Trader Joe’s.
They have three different variations of this wine, the White that I tried, Rose and Peach. They come in a four pack and are only $3.99! For the price of this wine, I cannot believe how great it is. I had it on Sunday and usually will only have a glass but it was so good I had two cans! The White wine is so light and refreshing with a hint of sweetness. It is effervescent which I like and it would be the perfect drink for the summer. I highly recommend grabbing a four pack next time you are in Trader Joe’s.
This weeks Wine Wednesday was a special selection by G and it is the Field Stone Merlot. This is one of his go to wines when we want something good but at an even better price. This wine comes in at just under $20 and we were able to pick it up at Molly’s.
What I like about this wine is how smooth it is. Sometimes with red wine I get an almost sour taste that makes it hard to drink, but I don’t get that with this wine. In the nose I get chocolate and vanilla hints with some blackberry. With the taste I again get a berry flavor with a hint of vanilla that really smooths it out.
We paired this wine with some burgers and a salad and it was perfect. I highly recommend grabbing a bottle or two of this wine if you see it at your local liquor store.
I would link the website, however the label was recently purchased by Kendall Jackson and it looks like they took down their website and the tasting room in Sonoma is closed. I am not sure what this means for the label but hopefully Kendall Jackson will keep the Field Stone name and wines.
Happy Wednesday! This week I have Matua, a Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand. I actually really like this wine. I have had it before and anytime we are in the liquor store i grab it.
What I like most about this wine is the price point. It is only around $10 and typically on sale. I think I picked this bad boy up for $6 at Molly’s . I also really love the taste. It is a little tart with some tropical fruit flavors.
I joked with G that I might have to buy a case of this since I love it so much and it is nice to have a lower priced wine on hand if you are having people over. I highly recommend this wine. I have their rose in my refrigerator that I also can’t wait to try.
So I am back at it with the wine in a tube. I was crossing my fingers that this one would not be as bad as last week and luckily it was not! It had a really dark color when I poured it into my glass and smelled really sweet like peaches or pears. Chateau Saint-Martin really didn’t have that much flavor but would probably be good paired with a fettuccine alfreado.
While this wine was drinkable I don’t think I would recommend it just because I didn’t think it was very flavorful, but the great thing about these tubes was that I was able to try a glass of something new rather than committing to an entire bottle.
Well we finally got a dud! I knew the day would come when I don’t like a wine and that day is today. I tired out one of the tube wines that I got from my mom last week and unfortunately it was not a winner.
This wine was the Bourgogne Chardonnay Clos De La Combe 2010. I am not sure if something happened to the wine when I transported it from California to Denver but it was bad, real bad. I usually love Chardonnay and am not picky when it comes to any wine and will literally drink anything. This wine didn’t even have a taste to comment on. It smells like rotten fermented fruit and tastes the same. I had it cold right out of the refrigerator as well as when it warmed up a bit and that still did not help.
Unfortunately I cannot recommend this wine. Better luck next week!
Wednesday is here and it’s time for another Wine Wednesday! This week I have selected the fancy AF Chateau Montelena. Just the name in itself sounds classy. Chardonnay is my wine of choice and I had high hopes for this higher end one.
I got a lot of butterscotch and vanilla on the nose and it does have that buttery oaky flavor that I love. I did however get a little bit of tart which was disappointing. I think for the price point you can find a wine that is just as good at a much lower cost. I would actually prefer the cheaper Harken wine over this one. This one is good, but I just question the price point.
